Mathematical Problem Solving
This is an exciting year for our precoscious young mathematicians. They're jumping with both feet from elementary arithmetic to middle school problem solving. The problems are more complex and reach beyond single arithmetic skills. Students have to tease out important information from the messy math, string together a set of arithmetic skills, and make sense of the calculations so that they can answer the question posed in the problem. These 6th and 7th grade problems require logical and creative strategies to arrive at a reasonable answer.
